Saga - Welsh Warband

Y Ddraig Goch ddyry gychwyn! (The Red Dragon will show the way)

While I started out in 40K, since my rekindled interest in wargaming, I had been looking around for something different. I don't recall where or when I first came across Saga but it sparked my interest. If you are unfamiliar with Saga, it is a Dark Age skirmish game that uses special dice to activate or unlock faction specific abilities on a "Battle Board". Troop selection consists of a Warlord (compulsory), Hearthguard, Warriors & Levies. I wont go into specific detail here, have a look at "The Tapestry" a great site dedicated to Saga.
I picked up a copy of the rules from Hall of Heroes in Campbelltown and one of the four point boxed factions. I settled on the Welsh to be my first faction as their abilities and look appealed to me. It was them or the Irish and they were out of Irish warbands and so the Welsh won by default. One of the things that I particularly liked about Saga was the number of miniatures you needed to start out was fairly small compared to other games. The 4 point Welsh  warband consisted on 33 miniatures all cast white metal and so it didn't take long to paint up. One thing I found a little irritating was the fact that a number of the Welsh abilities revolve around the use of javelins and so what levies were supplied in the box? Why Archers of course!  Still the figures don't cost the earth so it wasn't painful to buy some Javelin armed Levies, a mounted Warlord & some mounted Hearthguard (just for the hell of it)
