40K - Dark Angels.

IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE FAR FUTURE  - THERE IS ONLY WAR....
(Except on Wednesdays when we can all have ice cream!...Yeah!)

The Dark Angels was the first army I started modelling & playing 40K with. There was no particular reason I chose Dark Angels other than the dark green of their armour was easy to paint quickly. Most of the miniatures then were all generic Space Marines, there certainly wasn't the chapter diversity there is today and they were all made of led (I doubt the kids now could lift my miniatures case) - all except the Rogue Trader RTB1 Space Marine plastics which were, lets be honest, shite. They looked a bit like a cross between a disco dude with flared pants and a mutant woodpecker. The latest plastics are great. I was impressed with the mins in the  "Dark Vengeance" starter box set and the fact that you could snap them together and some of the character mins coming out are as good if not better than the best led/white metal figures. The Chapter themed plastics and the generic troops in plastic are fantastic, giving you a vast variety of builds. And then there's resin - God I ...ing hate resin miniatures. I could understand if it made the figures cheaper but no, now they are expensive and shite.

Also, 20 or so years ago there wasn't the background or the fluff that are associated with the 40K universe there is today. The background in the Codex's really adds another dimension to an army and the fact that they are available in eBook makes keeping them updated that much easier. The only problem I see is the future is getting more grim/dark by the codex. Hence the shift to the Tau. Blue is such a relaxing colour and they don't hate every one else in the 40K multiverse. So the swaths of DA's stay boxed up waiting for some love - after all they are just misunderstood - HERETIC! - *Blam*

But here is one of my favourite GW miniatures of all time - In white metal.

And another  - also in white metal & Terminator Armour - see a theme?

Azrael by Jes Goodwin - a bit long in the tooth now but still a great figure. A little small compared to the new range.
Plastic Terminators from DV.
One of the original led Dreadnoughts - don't drop it on your foot!
Raven wing from DV & box set

Master of the 5th Company - One of the new(ish) multipart Chapter themed plastics
